What It Means To Encourage Someone
If you are trying to comfort someone who is in pain due to the loss of a loved one then you need to read this article.
Often times it may feel like there is no need to share encouraging words to someone who is in pain. In most cases when you share some free words of encouragement the person who is in pain may seem to overlook them while continuing to coddle in the painful feeling.
Irrespective of the the way the person decides to react to the situation, every one who is in pain needs to hear positive words. I can liken sharing such words to planting a seed. It can take a while before you see the full results of your hard labour.
Similarly when sharing words of encouragement, never stop simply because you are not getting the reaction you expect. Don’t stop sharing words through a letter of encouragement or something close like poems or cards and don’t think twice about it.
It is harder for a fresh wound to show signs of healing on the first day. Summon all of your strength and patience and help the person the best way you can. For some people, the healing process can take weeks, months and even years – depending on the extent of the pain or disappointment.
I have a friend who lost a loved one and spent two years still mourning and crying everyday before going to bed. It turned out everything we kept saying to him over the years – in terms of encouragement, helped him to heal eventually. We didn’t know we were making that kind of an impact at the time.
So no matter how irrelevant you think it is to thinking about writing a letter of encouragement or poem always remember that they are helping him or her to live through each day. Just keep at it with endurance and understanding and it may be you are the reason why the grieving person is able to have the zest to live another day.
